Washington Schools on the Rise Award
Lakewood High School was honored by the Association of Washington School Principals with the "Washington Schools on the Rise" award. This award "celebrates schools where students and adults collaborate to improve culture and amplify student voice."
News & Announcements
For poetry practice Thursday, juniors in English Language Arts at Lakewood High School warmed up with a haiku poem with the theme, “A Warm Sunny Day.” Students quickly caught on to the five-seven-five syllabic pattern of the haiku. Several students were eager to share their work with the rest of the class.
After the warm-up, ELA teacher Sam Watson asked students to join their larger groups to dig into an assignment on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Students worked in teams to decode the mystery by answering questions about Shakespeare’s play.
Lakewood High School recently brought together student leaders from across our conference for a high-energy day of idea-sharing and collaboration during Interhigh.
From brainstorming game night themes and planning fundraisers to swapping ideas for staff recognition and school assemblies, students dove into activities aimed at building stronger, more connected school communities.
Eight outstanding students from three school districts were recognized April 24 by the Rotary Club of Arlington. The Rotary Club also donated $100 to an organization or charity of the student’s choice.
Senior Kostya Nevinglovskyi from Lakewood High School and Lakewood Middle School’s Joshua Merryweather, a seventh grader, were recognized.

Happy Earth Day! If your student rides Route 11, you may have noticed this month that we have a new Bluebird electric school bus. Lakewood ordered three new electric school buses, and related charging infrastructure, with a $1.6 million grant from the Washington Department of Ecology. The first bus was delivered in March and the second was delivered in April, bringing our total number of electric buses to five.
These buses will replace our aging diesel buses. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, electric buses save money since we don’t have to purchase fuel. Another bonus – since the bus is so quiet, students naturally talk at a lower volume.
One popular advanced science class available to Lakewood juniors and seniors is the Advanced Biology/Forensics class taught by Mike Fellows. As part of the College in the High School program in partnership with Everett Community College (EvCC), students can earn college credit—tuition-free—while still in high school.
This is just one of many College in the High School courses offered at Lakewood High School. Other classes are English 101, English 111, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Spanish III, Spanish IV, Honors U.S. History, Honors Government, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Biology/Forensics, and Ocean/Marine Biology.
