egg drop

Science 11 students at LHS put their knowledge to the test during a hands‑on engineering challenge: the annual egg drop. During the year, students in the class study both chemistry and physics, including forces and motion, as well as energy transfer—concepts that are essential when trying to protect a fragile egg from impact.

Students collaborated in teams to brainstorm and refine their protective capsules. They experimented with a range of designs, but parachutes emerged as a clear favorite this year. Teams cheered when a capsule was opened to reveal an unbroken egg.

students discuss components of blood

What do Karo syrup and your blood have in common? During an Animal Biology lab at Lakewood High School, students explored how plasma carries nutrients and more throughout the body. But that’s just the beginning—blood is also packed with red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

By adding candy, marshmallows, and sprinkles to Karo syrup to model these essential components, students got a hands-on look at how blood works and why each part matters.
